The day has come when you finally get your braces removed. However, you’ll need retainers after your braces treatment to keep your teeth from shifting to their original position. The video demonstrates what happens after braces are removed.
Your orthodontist will remove your braces by gently squeezing each bracket with a special tool. The archwire connecting the brackets slipped off.
Your teeth will then be cleaned to remove built-up plaque and stains.
A mold of your teeth will be needed to create your retainers. Using a probe, the orthodontist will scan each tooth, starting with the lower jaw. 3-D images of your teeth and gums are captured. The oral scanner works in real-time so the model can be visualized on a computer screen as your teeth are being scanned. A scan of the upper jaw is then taken.
The scans are then processed by trimming unwanted data from the images using a particular software. The images are then sent to a 3-D printer which prints the model. The model is inspected, washed, cured, and placed on a vacuum-forming machine. A clear plastic sheet is heated in the machine which seals it on the model. The plastic is then carefully removed from the model and trimmed.
The retainers are cleaned, sterilized, and presented to the patient. It’s important to wear the retainers after your braces treatment and maintain them as per your orthodontist’s instructions.
